Sound painting. Acrylic paint, vibration (sound waves sourced from two electromagnetic frequencies, one recorded on earth and the other in outer space), colored pencil on panel. 48 x 96 in.
In my investigations of making sound visible, I enlist sound itself as a form of materiality. I use the noēma as instruments of mark making in these paintings. They are vibrated using specific sound sources to move pigments across spatial landscapes, creating pools, trails, and visible formations of sonic patterns all shaped by sound.
